Wendy Mons is a Certified Low Vision Therapist and the founder of vifGA
  • Received her ACVREP certification as a Certified Low Vision Therapist in 2014.
  • Founded the Visually Impaired Foundation of Georgia, Inc. (vifGA) in 1997, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) company and has been acting as its director since that time.  vifGA was created to serve as a central resource for visually impaired Georgians.
  • In conjunction with vifGA, Wendy conducts 12 monthly low vision clinics with local optometrists and/or ophthalmologists throughout the state of Georgia.  The clinics are primarily funded through the Older Blind, State and federal Grant (Project Independence) .
  • Founder and president of Mons International, a company dedicated to providing products and services to visually impaired persons continuously since 1986.  In 1988 Wendy opened Mons Special Eyewear, a store for the blind and visually impaired at the request of visually impaired Georgians, their teachers, parents and counselors.  It operated until 1991.
  • Due to Wendy’s extensive experience in the field of low vision, Emory’s Department of Ophthalmology contracted with her to facilitate the creation of the Emory Low Vision Clinic

1991-1994

  • Worked at the Center for the Visually Impaired in Atlanta for 3 ½ years as a low vision specialist and temporary Director of Low Vision Services (1983-86).
  • Worked as a teacher’s assistant at the Department of Education, while studying for a Masters of Education degree at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa (1980-1983).
  • While living in Israel, Wendy worked as a teacher for the blind and visually impaired , set up low vision clinics, and founded a Hebrew Braille newspaper for the deaf/blind (1971-1980)
  • Earned a degree in Special Education for the Blind and Visually Impaired at the University of Texas in 1971.

 MONS International, Inc. BUSINESS BIO

  •  Name changed in 2014 to Magnifiers.com
  • Mons International, Inc. subsidized the non-profit organization Visually Impaired Foundation of Georgia, Inc. starting from its inception in 1997 and continues to do so.
  • Helped to fund and facilitate low vision support groups in rural, south Georgia. vifGA is now responsible for this task.
  • Mons International, Inc. was awarded the Older Blind Grant (Project Independence) to work with visually impaired seniors beginning in1994.  This grant provides a low vision exam, mobility training, rehabilitation in the home, selected low vision products, as well as computer training. The grant was diverted to Visually Impaired Foundation of Georgia, Inc. in 2013 to be handled through a non-profit, 501 (c)(3).
  • Mons international, Inc. offers free low vision workshops at libraries, schools, senior centers, universities, doctors’ offices, Department of Labor area hubs, Lions Clubs and local organizations.
