About vifGA-The Visually Impaired Foundation of Georgia

vifGA:  The Visually Impaired Foundation of Georgia, Inc.

vifGA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) created to serve as a central resource for visually impaired Georgians. Founded in 1997, vifGA was created to serve as a central resource for visually impaired Georgians. Services include:

  • Providing a toll-free number for the visually impaired to use for securing information on services and resources available in Georgia.
  • Maintaining the vifGA website, www.vifga.org, to serve as a comprehensive guide for the visually impaired and their families about existing available resources.
  • Funding for products and services for the visually impaired who do not qualify to receive aid from existing resources.

vifGA was founded by Low Vision Consultant and business owner, Wendy Mons. A graduate from the University of Texas with a five-year degree in education, visual impairment, and blindness, Ms. Mons works frequently with doctors, nurses, counselors and government officials to seek ways of providing continuing service and resources to the blind and visually impaired residents of Georgia.

The specialized services will enable blind and low vision persons to:

  • Acquire the tools they need to read and write.
  • Travel safely in their neighborhoods with the use of a cane or sighted guide.
  • Be seen at a Low Vision Clinic in their area to identify their special needs.
  • Receive in-home training and tools to promote and ensure independence.
  • Feel confident to compete in school and the workplace with the help of up-to-date equipment and/or specialized training.
  • Learn to deal with vision loss through workshops and support groups.
  • Become advocates for themselves and others with disabilities.
