Project Independence Assists Georgia Seniors

Project Independence logovifGA is a Project Independence Service Provider

Georgia’s Project Independence is a joint federal and state program for Georgia’s visually impaired seniors.

This vision program for seniors is administered by the Georgia Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and provides services that can help you remain independent. The services provided to those who qualify are free.

The Georgia Division of Vocational Rehabilitation contracts with Project Independence Service Providers across the state to provide services. vifGA is honored to be a provider of this very important service.

The Vocational Rehabilitation Division provides many valuable services to Georgia residents with disabilities.  They also provide assistance to Georgia employers who are wanting to add qualified workers to their force or to retain current workers with a disability.   To learn more about this organization, click here.

What does the program provide?

  • Independent Living Services
  • Peer Support Groups
  • Computer Training
  • Vision Screenings
  • Mobility
  • Training for Deaf/Blind
  • Resources
  • Low Vision Clinics
  • Low Vision Devices

Who is eligible?

  • A GA Senior, 55 years and older
  • With a severe vision loss in best eye with best correction
  • Who may find returning to the workforce difficult
  • And would benefit from independent living services

What areas does vifGA serve?

VifGA serves Southwest Georgia and sponsors low vision clinics in the following cities:

  • Alpharetta
  • Albany
  • Bainbridge
  • Columbus
  • Douglas
  • Gainesville
  • Macon
  • Milledgeville
  • Snellville
  • Tifton
  • Valdosta
  • Waycross

We are a 401(c)(3) non-profit organization, serving visually impaired seniors in Georgia. As such, we gratefully accept donations which allow us to provide for more seniors within our service area.
