Don Emens Visits Milledgeville

September 17, 2016 By admin

We had this awesome note from our associates in Milledgeville

Don with Milledgeville Support Group

Dear Mr. Emons,

Thank you for sharing information about the Low Vision Clinic that Mons provides in Milledgeville with our Visually Impaired People Support Group members this past Wednesday.  Thank you also for telling us about the OrCam and demonstrating it to us. It is an amazing device. It gives hope to know there are aids like that out there to help us. . We appreciated how you took the time to answer the many questions we asked and worked individually with us to ensure we understood how the OrCam worked.  I am attaching photos of the meeting.

Thanks again,

Anne Weathers

Jaws talking software leads to new job

January 11, 2016 By admin

A totally blind woman in South Georgia requested JAWS talking software and computer training to learn how to navigate the internet and use e-mail. She was working at a center teaching daily living skills to disabled individuals. Partly due to her newly acquired skills, she was able to accept the position as director of her center.

JAWS, Job Access With Speech, is the world’s most popular screen reader, developed for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with a mouse. JAWS provides speech and Braille output for the most popular computer applications on your PC.

Ladies Keep Living Independently

January 6, 2016 By admin

lady with magnifierAn 85 year old lady living with her 87 year old disabled sister came to a clinic with failing vision due to macular degeneration.

She was distraught thinking that due to her poor vision she and her sister would have to go into a nursing home. She was having trouble cooking, reading medication labels, and paying the bills.

With something as simple as locator dots we were able to fix her microwave and stove so she could cook again. She was able to purchase a CCTV video magnifier which enabled her to read, pay the bills, and read medical prescription instructions and identifications. With the help of a talking clock and talking timer she was able to accurately administer the medications to her sister.

This is just one of many success stories that we have had the honor to participate in.
